First of all, it is important that you know what your visa type is before going to the American consulate, once this is done you will be referred for an interview at the consulate. The visa process basically has three stages:
- Completing the DS-160 form.
- Payment of the fee and making appointments to CASV and consulate.
- Documents in the CASV and consulate interview.
Right after these steps have been made, they will send you an email showing that you made the payment and the paper they will give you with the dates of the consulate’s appointments.
To avoid problems in the interview it is good to take all the documents and everything you find and consider important, it is always good to sin in excess, in addition to the fact that many will travel from other cities to be able to do and have more travel expenses, which is not we want for lack of documents.
What documents are needed?
- Valid passport.
- Previous passports, especially those that contain some types of visas to the United States, even if expired.
- Confirmation page for submitting the DS-160 online form. Only the confirmation page of the DS-160 form will be accepted. Remember to fill in the form at least 72 hours before the date set for your interview; and
- Original receipt of payment of the visa application fee. Certified copies will not be accepted.
In addition to these principals, it is always recommended to take all documents that are necessary for proof, such as documents that demonstrate financial conditions for the cost of travel and to return to Brazil and evidence of strong links with the country, such as:
work card, personal and corporate income tax return, paychecks, marriage/birth certificate, proof of assets such as car, house, or any other income such as rent, savings, etc.
Tips to get through the American consulate
To avoid frustrations of a visa denied at the American consulate and to miss the opportunity of a lifetime travel experience here are some tips on how to spend at the consulate, don’t be shy, and look carefully:
- Schedule the interviews for subsequent days, the CASV itself will just collect your fingerprints and take a photo in the sequence you go to the interview.
- Do not take any electronic equipment you will be stopped at the metal detector, if you have a companion to hold your things it would be an option the other is the cabinets you have to rent at a cost.
- Upon arrival, you will see the booths in which you will be interviewed. Focus on what you will answer, show tranquility in the interview when we get nervous, we get a shaky voice, and this can be a bad thing because they may think that your information is not true.
- Study your form, the DS-160 if at the time of the interview you give a contradictory answer or in shock with what you put on the form your chances of getting approval are reduced.
- Be clear and objective in your answers, answer what you are asked without explanations unless you are asked.
- Take your documents, it is better to be safe than sorry.
After your interview you will have the confirmation of the approved visa and the processing of ten (10) business days for delivery.
Important information!
In the interview, electronic devices are not allowed, even if turned off.
We advise you not to lose any documents, including the form, as you will need it to return to your country of origin or residence.
Exceeding the time granted for each type of visa may result in problems later and may even be penalized for not returning to your country on the date indicated by the immigration agent. So, stay tuned!
