Are you thinking about taking a trip to the United States in 2021 and still don’t know what is the best time to travel to the United States? The big tip is: escape the American holidays.

We say this because the United States takes its holidays very seriously, and so on these festive dates Americans enjoy and also travel a lot.

In other words, on American holidays, hotels and airline tickets, for example, are in greater demand, and therefore the price of these things tends to increase.

Also, some of your points of interest (such as restaurants and shops) may be closed.

The Orlando Parks, which are very popular among Brazilians who travel to the United States, also tend to get very crowded during American holidays.

With this in mind, we decided to bring you the complete and updated 2021 American Holidays Calendar, with some information about each one, to help you plan your trip to the United States!

31ST MAY – MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day is a very important date in the American holiday calendar, because as we all know, in the United States patriotism speaks louder.

This American holiday honors all the military men and women who have died in battles involving the United States.

On this date, all these men who died in the service of the Armed Forces are remembered by all with great pride and admiration.

4TH OF JULY – INDEPENDENCE DAY

OCTOBER 11 – COLUMBUS DAY

This American holiday is also known as “Hispanic Day”.

It is always celebrated on the second Monday of October, and represents the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, back in the year 1492.

Usually on this holiday Americans participate in a big parade, but it is worth remembering that this date is not celebrated in every state in the country.

In Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, for example, this day is not celebrated.

NOVEMBER 11 – VETERANS DAY

  • Thursday

Very similar to the May 31 Memorial Day holiday, Veterans Day honors all citizens who have served in one way or another in the Armed Forces – whether they are deceased or not.

This day is also very important to Americans, given the patriotism present in the United States, and also the invaluable risk these soldiers were put at to defend their country.

NOVEMBER 25TH – THANKSGIVING

  • Thursday

Without a doubt this is one of the most important American holidays.

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, has no fixed date, it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.

The origin of this date goes back to the successful American harvest in the 17th century.

On Thanksgiving, today, Americans have a real, hearty supper with their families, including the most traditional American dishes, such as turkey and apple pie.

DECEMBER 25TH  – CHRISTMAS DAY

  • Saturday

December 25 is also a Christmas holiday in the United States, a country with a majority Catholic population.

Americans take this date very seriously, and it is a big celebration for them as well.

The houses in the United States at this time of year are super decorated – it is a kind of competition between neighbors to see who can decorate their house the most and in the most flashy and beautiful way.

For supper, in addition to dishes that are also common for us – such as ham and pork tenderloin – Americans usually prepare the famous apple pie, gingerbread and also a drink called “Eggnog”.

This drink is made with milk, sugar, nutmeg and egg! In addition, it can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic, with cognac or rum.

If you are thinking about buying a house in the United States, it is important to get information from local real estate agents.

Important Dates in the USA

In addition to American holidays, the United States has other important dates.

These commemorative dates are also celebrated in the United States, but they are not national holidays.

  • February 14th: Valentine’s Day
  • March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day (Irish original);
  • October 21st: Halloween
  • November 26th: Black Friday (season of great sales).

Spring Break

Finally, it is impossible not to mention Spring Break, the American student vacation.

They occur in March, and during this period, just like in Brazil during school vacations, Americans usually travel a lot!

The prices of hotels, airline tickets, tourist sites and other places are very high, not to mention that the coastal cities always get very crowded!

Remember: before you pack your bags, it is always important to check which types of American visas are most suitable for you.
